TCL wall units appear throughout our gallery and social posts: bright residential walls, shop fronts, and office rooms where clean line hide matters. TCL is one of the brands customers request alongside Windy when they want inverter comfort and a finished look. This guide walks through install quality markers you can verify on site.

We are not ranking TCL against Windy with fake scores. Both show up on real jobs. Capacity, wall, electrical, and how neat you want the pipe run matter more than the badge on the indoor grille. Send room photos and we will talk models in that context.

Where TCL shows up on jobs

Posts show boxed units on site, bracket templates on block walls, finished indoor heads with aligned piping covers, and outdoor condensers on steel brackets. Commercial installs often need longer pipe runs and careful routing so cables do not cross walkways.

Shop fronts and offices want the indoor unit level, the covers flush, and the outdoor unit where customers are not brushing past the cage. Homes want the same quality plus a drain that will not stain a freshly painted wall. The checklist does not change because the room is a till instead of a bedroom.

Indoor mount and height

Manufacturers specify minimum clearance above the unit and to the side for airflow. Installers should level the bracket, use appropriate anchors for block or concrete, and avoid mounting directly above electrical panels or beds where condensate risk keeps you awake.

• Center on the wall zone you actually occupy, not the doorway.
• Plan remote sensor location away from direct sun or hot appliances.
• Confirm decorative covers snap flush before the crew leaves.
• Leave room to open the front for filter work without moving a wardrobe.

If the only “good” wall is a partition, say so. Light board is not the same as block. We would rather add backing or pick another wall than watch a unit sag in six months.

Outdoor unit placement

The condenser needs open air on all sides. Our posts show brackets elevated off flat roofs and walls to reduce splash back. Keep exhaust away from bedroom windows and neighbor walls when possible.

A condenser in a tight side passage cooks itself. So does one sitting in a plant bed. The coil cleaning guide will not save a unit that never had airflow. Placement is an install decision, not a later wash.

Roof mounts need a safe path for service. If we cannot reach it next year, the first install was incomplete. Photograph the proposed outdoor spot from the ground and from the landing if you have one.

Piping and insulation

Copper lines should be insulated along the entire exposed run. Vibration clips prevent noise transfer into the wall. Line sets should be pressure tested before refrigerant charge. Ask if you may watch the gauge set readings during commissioning.

Trunking and covers are not vanity. Sun eats bare insulation. A neat cover also means the next service does not fight a tangled, cracked mess. If you want the pipe hidden, say that on the quote. Surprises on the wall after the crew leaves are how people get unhappy with a good unit.

Condensate drainage

Drain hose must slope downward with no dips that trap water. Route to a gutter, floor drain, or splash block away from the foundation. Blocked drains are a top cause of wall stains and repair calls.

Gravity is the plan. Pumps exist for special cases and they need their own service. Do not let a drain terminate over a walkway where it becomes a slip, or against timber where it becomes rot. We will point at the exit on install day. Confirm it.

Power and disconnect

TCL indoor heads still need a correct supply. Shared kitchen circuits, undersized wire, and no outdoor disconnect are how “the new AC trips the house” starts. Flag any flickering lights or tight breaker panels when you request the quote.

If another trade is running the electrical, we still need to know the circuit is ready before we hang the indoor unit. Coordination beats two crews arguing on a ladder.

Commissioning checklist

1. Cool and fan modes tested at multiple speeds.
2. Remote paired and timer demonstrated.
3. No vibration at outdoor bracket.
4. Drain flow verified with a cup of water if safe.
5. Filter removal shown once.
6. Model sticker photographed for your records.

Stay for the cool-air test with the door closed. An open shop front during commissioning is not a fair test of a zoned unit.

Aftercare and servicing

After install, add the unit to your annual service calendar. Filters monthly. Outdoor wash at least yearly, more near the coast. The first week notes in the Windy guide apply here too: new-plastic smell can fade, water on the wall should not appear, and a rattle should be messaged while it is still a small job.
